Today, different condenser coil designs are used by air conditioner manufacturers depending on the space, capacity, and airflow requirements of the outdoor unit. Among the most commonly used designs are L-Type, U-Type, and V-Type condenser coils.
L-Type coils are widely used in residential split air conditioners and compact outdoor units. The coil is bent at a 90-degree angle forming an “L” shape, allowing better utilization of space inside the condenser cabinet.

U-Type coils are commonly used in VRF systems and larger commercial AC units. In this design, copper tubes are bent in a “U” shape, allowing refrigerant to travel smoothly through multiple rows of the coil.
Benefits of U-Type coils include:
• Higher heat transfer efficiency
• Better refrigerant distribution
• Suitable for higher-capacity systems
These coils are particularly important in modern high-efficiency HVAC systems.
V-Type condensers are typically used in high-capacity outdoor units and rooftop HVAC systems. The coil arrangement forms a “V” shape, which increases the surface area available for heat rejection.
Advantages include:
• Larger heat transfer area
• Improved airflow through the condenser
• Better performance in high ambient temperatures
This design is widely used in commercial and industrial HVAC equipment.
